After E-Coating

Q&A

We hope to answer as many of your questions as we can

Once the parts are e-coated many people wonder “What can I do from here?”.

“Can I do any body work after e-coating?”

  • Yes.  You can add filler, bondo, and primer as needed.  Just be sure to scuff the e-coat to remove the sheen.

“Can I powder coat over e-coat?”

  • Yes!  Providing you are using a quality powder coater.  E-coat and powder are an excellent combination if done correctly.  The most important factor is that your powder coater cannot cure the powder more that one time.  Therefore they must do it right the first time!

“Can I paint directly over e-coat?”

  • Yes.  Just be sure to scuff the surface to a dull finish.

“Can I do any metal work after e-coat?”

  • Yes, but ideally you want to do as much as possible before you bring us the parts.  If you have to cut into the e-coat you must be sure to re-prime any bare metal to prevent the part from rusting.
